SIRF creates Voisin memorial fund

The Seafood Industry Research Fund (SIRF)’s board of directors has announced it is creating a new research fund in memory of Louisiana’s Mike Voisin.

Voisin, the owner of Motivatit Seafoods and a fixture in the Louisiana seafood community, passed away in February of complications following a heart attack. He was regarded as the voice of the industry in Louisiana, frequently promoting the industry and making an annual pilgrimage to Washington to meet with legislators. He is also known for helping to found the Louisiana Seafood Promotion and Marketing Board and serving as a past chair of the National Fisheries Institute.

“Mike’s involvement in our business was second to none,” said Russ Mentzer, SIRF’s chairman. “Everyone recognized him as a person of character and action. SIRF is honored to create a fund in Mike’s legacy and grateful to give back to seafood as he did so many times throughout his life.”

The fund, according to SIRF, will support research projects connected to seafood, aquaculture and food safety. To make a pledge or donation, please contact Geraldine Daniel at [email protected] or at 703-752-8890, or visit SIRF’s website.
