Vietnam’s seafood exports hit $7.22b

The value of Vietnam’s seafood exports in November totaled an estimated USD 666 million (EUR 540.9 million), according to a report from the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP). Total exports through 11 months totaled USD 7.22 billion (EUR 5.86 billion), up 19.3 percent from last year.

The United States remains the leading import market for Vietnam seafood, making up 21.85 percent of total export value. Exports to the U.S. market over the first 10 months of 2014 reached USD 1.43 billion (EUR 1.16 billion), which is up 19.97 percent year on year.

Exports to other markets also increased over the first 10 months of the year. Japan, Korea and China saw increases of 8.47 percent, 37.49 percent and 16.17 percent, respectively.

Shrimp maintained its position as the leading export item, which contributed to positive growth of seafood exports from Vietnam.
Vietnam’s seafood imports are also up. According to the report, estimated import value for shrimp in November alone was USD 74 million (EUR 60 million), bringing the cumulative import value over 11 months to USD 957 million (EUR 777.1 million), which is up 59.7 percent year on year. Vietnam saw the most imports from India and Taiwan.
