Maroc shows off in Boston, to repeat in Brussels

Moroccan export promoter Maroc Export and Moroccan fisheries and industry leaders showcased fisheries from their country at Seafood Expo North America in Boston, and plan to do so again at Seafood Expo Global in Brussels in May.

The company worked with the Moroccan National Federation and the Moroccan Fisheries Office to present 13 fisheries from Morocco at the Boston show, and will go on to do so in Brussels on 6 to 8 May. Both shows are produced by Diversified Communications, the parent company of SeafoodSource.

The presentation of Moroccan seafood products is part of a national effort to boost exports. Morocco has set a goal of increasing exports from USD 1.7 billion (EUR 1.2 billion) today to USD 3.1 billion (EUR 2.2 billion) by 2020.

The presentations are highlighting the benefits of Moroccan seafood to the U.S. and European markets. Officials from the country also hope to make Morocco a strategic location as a commercial hub between Europe and Africa for American companies.

The push began in 2006, when Morocco signed a free trade agreement with the United States. Morocco exports 68 percent of its seafood products to Europe, but only 2 percent to the U.S.

The country will bring 50 companies to a pavilion in Brussels, hoping to build on existing client relationships and bring in new clients.
