Alaska salmon MSC certification behind schedule

Intertek Moody Marine on Tuesday announced a delay in completing the Marine Stewardship Council re-assessment of the Alaska salmon fishery.

Previously, Intertek said the certification would be complete by 7 May 2013, but the new completion date is 16 July 2013. This is not the first time the certification has fallen behind schedule. The original timeline shows the fishery was expected to be certified on 1 May 2013.

The target eligibility date — the date from which product from a certified fishery is likely to be eligible to bear the MSc eco-label — is estimated to be 30 October 2012, the date the previous certification expired.

Intertek said the reason for the delay was illness of some certifiers and team member travel.
