GLOBALG.A.P., a European organization that oversees a “Good Agricultural Practices” certification system, is officially launching a consumer label for certified aquaculture, though the certification has already been implemented in Asia, Europe and Latin America.
GLOBALG.A.P. will make its formal announcement at a press conference at Seafood Expo Global in Brussels, Belgium on 27 April, 2016. The event will take place in Hall 11, 3rd Floor, Room 1124 from 3 to 4 p.m.
The label will cover 24 fish and seafood species and will be based on the “GLOBALG.A.P Standard for Good Aquaculture Practices,” according to a press release. The focus of the GLOBALG.A.P. certification will be on product quality as understood by the end consumer, according to the release.
“Questions concerning origin and production methods as well as social and ecological conditions play an increasingly significant role in building consumer trust and determining purchasing decisions,” the release said. “[The certification] will offer consumers more information and transparency when buying fish and seafood from certified aquaculture.”
GLOBALG.A.P. will be an exhibitor at Seafood Expo Global and can be found in Hall 9, Booth 4026 throughout the show, which runs from 26 to 28 April at the BRUSSELS EXPO.
