ALFOCAN, S.A.
ALFOCAN, S.A., established in Seville in 1987, is the European leader in processing and marketing “Procambarus clarkii” crayfish. These freshwater crustaceans are caught in the traditional manner in the South of the Iberian Peninsula – the world’s largest fishing and production area after China and the United States.
The annual production at ALFOCAN’s plant situated in Isla Mayor exceeds 1,500 metric tonnes and is endowed with modern infrastructure and technology – two of ALFOCAN’s key-focuses since its establishment.
The company sells 20% of its various product-ranges on the domestic Spanish market and exports to countries such as France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Finland, Poland, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Russia and the United States.
Customers appreciate ALFOCAN’s mission and philosophy:
- Over twenty years of acquired mono-product expertise
- Rigorous selection of raw material
- Mastering of the preparation process
- Guaranteed food security and traceability
- Environmental respect
As a complete novelty on the market, ALFOCAN has developed a new product range of freshly cooked, crayfish products prepared under modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) guaranteeing
- a 100 % natural product: no food-additives are used
- 100 % wild-caught: caught in freshwater with traditional crafts
- alive before cooking: no thawing of raw material
- available exclusively during the fishing season (approximately during 8 months per year)
As one example of the MAP-assortment, ALFOCAN’s crayfish skewers have been awarded with the 2009 Prix d’Elite in the category “Best New Foodservice Product”.
